blown orchestra, nurtured by her exacting instruction. Every three years, the students are offered the opportunity to travel overseas, with past trips taking them to London, Paris, Spain and Italy. This year, the orchestra is visiting Vienna, Salzburg and Budapest while the band will perform in Orlando. The program is also supported by the Friends of the Beachwood Orchestra, which raises funds to support orchestra activities, taking the programming above and beyond where the district leaves off. Under her guidance, the high school recently added music theory and A.P. music theory classes. She is aided by Noël Bliss DeViney, the assistant orchestra director. Goldman reveals that when she told students they would be performing with The Cleveland Orchestra, she heard someone say, “She is SO making that up, that’s not going to happen.” As she observed it all actually playing out, she swelled with pride. “I have the best job in the district,” she states.
“A noteworthy fact is that for nine consecutive years, Beachwood’s music program has won the National Association of Music Merchants award as being one of the best schools in the U.S. for music education.”
