Programs at Montefiore
Summer Junior Volunteer Program
Montefiore is seeking junior volunteers ages 12 and up to assist with resident activities and services, friendly visiting and office work. Here is your chance to meet other teen volunteers from a variety of schools and communities, all while earning service hours in an environment committed to caring, compassion and customer service. Volunteers will need to call in for a brief interview and go through the application process, which includes providing one reference and completing an orientation and training session. Summer College Internships Available
Do you know college students looking for some hands–on experience this summer? Montefiore may be the place for them. With the tight job market, this type of work experience can distinguish a candidate looking to break into a professional field. Montefiore is offering six-week, 30-hour a week internships with a small stipend. Internships are a wonderful opportunity for college students to gain more experience in their interested field and possibly even a job after college. That was the case Akilah Porter for Beachwood High School graduate of 2009 and resident Akilah Porter. The summer of her senior year at Kent State University, Akilah applied for a marketing internship at Montefiore, despite her working toward a degree in news journalism with a concentration in magazine. She was accepted into the 6-week program and impressed her supervisor – Susan Lieberman, marketing director – so much so that Susan extended her internship by four additional weeks, leading up to the first day of classes. On her graduation day, two hours before she was going to walk the stage in her cap and gown, Akilah received a unexpected call from Susan asking her if she had a job lined up post-graduation and like many college graduates, Akilah submitted dozens of job applications but didn’t have any offers lined up.
