Let Spring Be the Motivator to Come Alive
Spring is just around the corner – the time when bulbs push their way through the barriers of the hard soil, during the cold of winter. How can we look to the bulbs for inspiration, for motivation? What has held us back from blossoming into the person we wish to become? How many times have we said, “I wish, I should, I need to, BUT….” Spring is the perfect time to break through the barriers that have held us back from recognizing and celebrating what makes us feel engaged, empowered, connected, healthy…alive. There is a tendency to simmer in what is wrong with self, others, an approach, a situation. Let spring be the motivator to come alive – to connect to what motivates and inspires you, and to roll up your sleeves and do the work necessary to be a part of your own positive growth and change. It starts with you! Stop blaming others, a situation or the past for your dormancy and empower yourself to grow beyond the barriers that have kept you from basking in the light of your own life. Feeling frustrated by life? Practice gratitude awareness. Say or write down one gratitude statement each night in order to connect to positive awareness. When triggered by normal life stressors, practice a gratitude soundtrack. Here are some samples: • Stuck in traffic: I am grateful that I have a car that runs. • Overwhelmed by housework: I am grateful for my home and family. • Tired of the alarm going off before you are ready to start the day: I am grateful that I woke up and have the chance to live another day. Reframe a situation from negative to a positive. Feeling disappointed by a relationship? Invite the person for coffee or a walk, or write a letter. Empower yourself to be a part of the desired relationship change. Practice bookend communication: Positive, simple straight truth without judgment or blame. Feeling disconnected to self and others? Commit to practicing selfcare every day. Find what inspires you to create space in your mind and body for positive awareness, growth and change. A morning stretch. Meditation. A walk. Yoga. A pick-up basketball game. Read poems, quotes, books that inspire. Listen to music that makes you start the day with a smile. Eat foods that fuel your body and mind. Connect with others who reflect your core values and engage in life in positive and meaningful ways. Feeling critical of the way something is being done? Get involved. Participate in creating the change that you wish to see.
