Beachwood Softball League
n Sunday, August 28, the Beachwood Softball League held its annual Legends game when the Adelman Army defeated Nathan’s Navy 14-1. This is the 5th consecutive time that the Adelman Army won the title. The game represented a league reunion and featured both past and current players over 60 years of age, all of whom enjoyed the camaraderie as much as the actual game.
Thirty-five players participated in the Legends game, many adorned with their ever-present medical devices, as usual. Eight lovely cheerleaders, organized by Joanne Adelman, were cheering on the team while clad in pink “Legend Lady” t-shirts and pom poms. The league’s All-Star game, held after the Legends game, featured 28 of the league’s top players who were voted on by teammates. Congratulations to the “Even Team” who beat the “Odd Team” 13-7. Both teams looked great as they hit several home runs and played excellent defense. Congratulations go to the Gilbert/Gellis team on sweeping both halves of the season. “Our team was made up of talented guys who looked forward to playing each week,” co-manager Randy Gilbert told us. “We shared something unique, both on and off the field. From the top to the bottom of the lineup, we couldn’t have won without all the guys. The word “team” best defined us and is what we will always remember about the Orange Team of 2016.” Congratulations also go to Aaron Goodman on receiving this year’s batting title. Although the 2016 season has ended, the 2017 campaign is already in the commissioners’ sight as a managers’ meeting is planned to take place early this month. The league’s annual awards banquet is scheduled for late November.
