Sam Sarver Excels in Soccer
Sam Sarver starting playing soccer, through the Beachwood Recreation program, when he was 5 years old. At age 6, he made the U9 squad for a premier club and has continued to excel ever since, having played for premier clubs including Cleveland Select, AC Premier and Challenger Crew. Now at 13 years of age, Sarver plays at Academy for Internationals. For the past eight years, Sarver has been dedicated to the sport of soccer. He currently trains four days per week and travels, often out of state, on weekends. Sarver's dedication continues to pay off as his teams have won state and national titles, and he has been invited to participate in International id camps for Barcelona, Feyenoord and Arsenal; and has competed in USSDA (U.S. Soccer Development Academy) showcases. In 2014, Sarver was one of 14 U.S. players to receive an invitation from La Masia coaches to play in the FCBEscola tournament in Barcelona, Spain, where he led Team USA to the semi-finals, defeating FCBEscola for its first-ever loss. Following the game, TEAM USA was front-page news in Barcelona. In Spring 2016, Sarver was one of 21 U.S. players to receive an invitation to train for a week in Arizona, in front of Arsenal coaches from England. This training resulted in Sarver’s being selected as an Elite U.S. player and being invited on an all-expense-paid trip to London to train with the Arsenal’s Professional Youth Academy at Hale End. Sarver also participates in twohour elimination training events in Columbus for placement in USBNT (U.S. Boys National Team) pool. His mentor, Zel Marusic from AC Premier, is never out of reach. Marusic coached Sarver from ages 9 to 11 and is always available for advice and conversation. “Soccer is a very big commitment for me and my family,” Sarver told us. “It takes 100% self-determination and I would not have it any other way.” Sarver’s ultimate goal is to play soccer in Europe and he is well on his way to achieving this goal.
